About Me

I’ve always been a fairly long hitter. I’m not Daly or Dechambeau, but I’ve had my fair share of 3 putt pars. A number of players I’ve been paired with assume this means I’m a great golfer. The first tee shot is often followed by questions like “Where did you play in college?” or “Are you free to join my team for our next scramble?” I have two stock responses.

  1. “Wait until you see me putt” and

  2. “Distance has never been a problem, but direction always has been.”

Number 1 hints at my self confidence issues and inability to accept a compliment. Number 2 sums up a lot of things in my life beyond golf. I often feel like I have some pieces of the puzzle, but I can’t figure out how to put them all together.

Towards the end of my junior and high school golf career, my game peaked (or valleyed?) in the medium single digit handicaps, but somewhere around this time I found out that I was pretty good at math and statistics. Eventually, I pursued graduate degrees in math without any clue of what I would do with that after school ended. Since finishing my PhD, I’ve tested both academic math and industry data science roles, but I’ve always wanted to connect these skills back to my love of golf. My hope for this site is to give some direction to the distance by combining my technical skills with my love for golf.
